I'm so far behind! Here are some photos from a wedding way back in June! I had a fabulous time with this couple. I love when I find things in common with the couple. As I was photographing the groomsmen's tuxes, I noticed the name on one of them..."Hey! I know Drew...he grew up down the street from me! I think I may have babysat him." (Then to myself..."wow, I'm old"). Later, Marshall was talking about the priest who would be performing the ceremony. Me again : "Wait, who did you say?...He's my cousin...he married my husband and me...and my parents!" Small world :)

I had so much fun with these two cuties. I'm sure they have grown up since their photo session back in June! They were perfect little models - one girl, one boy. Of course, getting in my "baby fix" was a bonus too.

At some point during most photo sessions involving kids, the parents get frustrated that their child is not acting "perfect". I always chuckle and say, "no worries, I schedule plenty of time, I'm sure baby will fall asleep before I do." I have yet to be outdone by any child :)...I thoroughly enjoy all of them.

Congratulations again to the proud parents, and thank you for sharing your pride and joy with me!

Once again...trying to keep up with Neysa :). Here is a beautiful wedding from June. I had a fabulous time with this couple. When I arrived at the golf course (site of getting ready, ceremony, and reception = bonus!) the guys got right to work on the ties.

Neysa might strangle me for this next image...we are not typically "rings in the flowers photo" type of photographers. It was a cool thing to do in the 90s but has been overdone. HOWEVER, I really liked the colors and tried to make it more about the rings and the colors than the "rings in the flowers."

While I always enjoy chatting with the guys, I try to not get too involved. After all, I am there to document the day, not create the day. This time I did get to help teach the game of Euchre!

Another one Neysa might strangle me for :)...this is what you do to get the shot you want.

At some point Neysa asked, "Did you...?" I said, "yes". Everyone was impressed that we only needed those few words. Apparently we have been working together long enough that we can read each other's minds. She wanted to know if I got the following shot.

Once again, I am trying to keep up with Neysa. Here are some images from Amanda and Nick's fabulous wedding...back in May :). Neysa already posted a few of my images on her blog, and here is my take. While she was with the girls I got to hang with the guys.

Before Nick opened his gift, he looked at his mom and said, "The more bows I break the more kids we will have, right?" He then proceeded to rip into the bow. Apparently he can't wait for kids :)

Luckily it was a gift that a kid of any age would love!

Typically Neysa gets to photo the brides' fabulous shoes. This time, I got a turn with the groom's custom design.

I shot this fabulous wedding a while back with Neysa. I love getting to hang with the guys while they goof off and just relax before the ceremony. This group was enjoying darts (and later some cards).

Then it was off to the dining room to get ready.

I'm trying my darnedest to keep up with Neysa this year :-). This was the first wedding of the season and what a great start it was! I met up with Neysa and the girls briefly...just long enough to snag a few photos of these cute treats. It took everything I had to not grab one and take a bite ;-).

Then I headed to the guys room for some getting ready shots.

Then we were off to the Drees' Pavilion where the girls finished getting ready. Neysa was in the room with Jamie and her mom prepping the dress. I had to sneak a few photos through the crack in the door.

I thought about closing down the blog, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. So, instead I decided to update on a sorta quarterly basis. Who knows, maybe I'll go crazy and update once a month! Yes, you all have missed a ton of stuff going on in my life, but it is nothing new or all that exciting. Jon and I are once again training for the Flying Pig Marathon, so I spend my free time running. The kiddos are getting big even though I tell them to stop growing. No worries though, I'm not having any more. Photography sessions are booking like mad right now...it must be spring. If you want in, call me soon!

As a way to make up for my lack of posting this year (and last year too), here is a recap of some weddings from last June. Check out Neysa's blog for more photos and more details.

Happy New Year everyone!!

My New Year's resolution is to be a better blogger...heck, I can't get much worse :)

I have decided to end the year with a bang and let you in on a few photos from a fabulous wedding back in November. Special thanks to Neysa for being my right hand woman and patiently waiting for me to post this wedding. Check out her blog fro more of the guy photos.

Congratulations to Jeni and Brian. The 5k was a blast, the wedding was beautiful, the reception was a true party. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, you are truly a joy to work with. Now...pictures...

I love newborn sessions! Now that my kids are getting big, these sessions are the way I get my "baby fix". And before you ask, no, I am not having any more kids of my own. I am perfectly content to photograph and hold the babies and then not have to get up with them in the middle of the night :).

I have been photographing this family for a few years now, and am always happy with our sessions. Repeat clients are always a joy. It is also a bonus that I went to grad school with one of them (mom with short dark hair) and we get to catch up on our lives.

Typically our annual photo session co-insides with the coldest day of the year. So, they planned sweaters in preparation. Of course...it was 80 degrees when I shot these (lucky me got to sport shorts and a tank top :)). They were a blast as always and grandma and grandpa even got join in on the fun this time.

The kids were bribed with jelly beans for each picture. So, when it was the adults turn, the kids had a blast taunting the adults with the jelly beans.

Before I begin with this wedding, let me start with some blog notes....I've been getting the third degree for not updating my blog more often (ahem...Neysa, Karen, Kevin). I guess I deserve it because I couldn't remember my password to log in to update the blog. Oops. My lack of updating is not because I have not been taking pictures. On the contrary, I have been so busy I'm feeling overwhelmed. Not to worry - even when I can't breath, I love this work and can't imagine anything better to be drowning in. Now for some photos.

I photographed this backyard wedding in early October. It was a nice family affair, and was a bonus that the bride actually is family (my cousin's daughter). A super huge thank you to Kevin for second shooting with me.

I started the day with the girls. While Brooke had her make-up done, all the girls sat on the bed to watch.

Let me start with my broken record on blog posting..."I've been very busy", "I'm a bad blogger", "I love my job", "I love all of the people I get to work with, photograph, meet"...

Teresa and Lee were no exception to the rule. I had a fabulous time hanging out with the guys (and the few girls who were permitted). I love it when I can find something in common with the people I am photographing. While I am by no means a rock climber, I do enjoy a good hike in beautiful country (see vacation post). I was mesmerized by stories of places to climb/see/hike. The other big topic of conversation was kids and the medical field. Being married to a pediatrician myself, I felt right at home. Then getting to see Teresa and Lee interact at the ceremony and reception rounded out a great evening. They are a perfect compliment to each other. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for letting me share in your day. A big super huge "thank you" also to Neysa for letting be second photographer! It is always a blast!

I suppose it is time for my monthly blog update :). Let me start by saying that Neysa and I have been very fortunate to work with fabulous couples in this wedding photography business, which makes my job so much fun. The reason I post some weddings and not others has to do with my schedule. I've loved working with each and every one of you even if I have not posted your photos yet. I'm now trying to keep up with my once monthly blogging promise (and maybe even exceed that goal), and keep up with Neysa (blogging goddess).

Caroline and T.J. were no exception to the fabulous couple rule. They had a wonderful ceremony at Bellarmine Chapel and an uber fun reception at Hyde Park Country Club. I decided to try something a little different for these photos. The "old" look is typically not my style, but I was digging this effect on these photos. Let me know what you think.

Lazy Crazy Summer

I never intended to ignore the blog this long. I have been crazy busy with photo things this summer and when I'm not working on images I 'm enjoying the summer with my kids and hubby. Is it possible to be crazy busy and lazy at the same time? Well...SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW! Woo Hoo! I must admit that I am a little sad to see the carefree summer days go, but I'm also ready for some routine. I have tons to blog from sessions and weddings past. My goal is to post more than once a month :) - nothing wrong with setting an attainable goal is there?

Hiking Half Dome

Vacation!

I recently returned from a fabulous family vacation in San Francisco and Yosemite. We spent a few days in the city and saw all the sites. Gotta love SF weather - nice and cool and no rain. Then we headed to Yosemite for some hiking. The "big hike" that my husband, father, and I took was to the top of half dome.

Here is Half Dome as seen from Glacier Point:

We started nice and early - 5am, for the 8 mile hike. Eight miles sounds like nothing when you run marathons...HOWEVER there is a 4,300 foot elevation gain. It took 6 hours to hike those 8 miles up, and about 4 hours to hike back down. Along the way we got to watch the sun rise. Rainbows and waterfalls were also among the sites.

The last part of the climb is the most intense. It involves rock stairs along several switchbacks. We never counted the stairs but my dad claims there were at least 750 of them. After the stairs, you get to this:

"The Cables" - this is what it looked like when we went up. It is 650ft up a 45 degree angle. There are cables on posts with wood planks every so often to use as foot holds. You grab a pair of gloves from the pile and climb/pull yourself up that last 650 feet. Flexible calves and a good grip are a must. Um, no, the cables do not move... they are just there like a small, slack hand rail.

Once at the top, you are treated to this:

Here are the cables on the way back down - a bit more crowded. Yep, you gotta share the cable with people going the other direction.

It was a great accomplishment to say that we hiked Half Dome and was an experience I will never forget. Heck, I may even do it again someday...maybe.

A few photos from a few weeks ago... Laura and Bob are a fabulous couple who had a fabulous wedding. I got to know them during their engagement session, and I knew I would thoroughly enjoy photographing the wedding. The ceremony was at Knox Presbyterian Church which is simply beautiful, and Ault Park for the reception...a favorite spot of mine!

After the girls had their hair and makeup done, they headed to First Watch for lunch - this is my kind of group!

The fabulous shoes. I need to take notes on all the fabulous shoes I get to photograph, so I can buy a pair of each for myself :).

I love this next shot. It was just a random moment after the ceremony during formal photos. I love the way he is looking at her and the overall dreamy feeling of the photo.

We were able to do several photos around Ault Park before the reception...I love having this kind of opportunity.

The Marathon

I have mentioned my marathon training before on the blog...so I must include the finish to all of that training. A few weeks ago I ran the Nashville Country Music Marathon with my husband and several other relatives. We had a great time visiting Nashville and a great time running. Everyone came home with a PR (that's runner lingo for personal record - best time). My husband and I finished the race in 4 hours, 26 minutes, 30 seconds (his official time was 4:26:31, so I really beat him by 1 second).

This marathon was large as far as marathons go...5,000 running the full and 25,000 running the half-marathon. To help deal with all of those people, they have corral starts. The elite runners get to start first, then the next fastest runners, and on down the line. We were in corral 10 of 31 and it took us 17 minutes to cross the start line. I'm on the right (number 10211) with Jon right behind me and Stephanie right behind him. My dad is in the bright green shirt, getting ready to hand us jelly beans (Jelly Belly Sport Beans - the only way to make it through a marathon). I think this is at about mile 18 or 19.

The group of runners. Those of us with black ribbon medals ran the full marathon and those with red ribbons ran the half. The pink signs my mom made to cheer us on. Those infamous pink signs have been to several marathons now and are a blessing to see when you are out on the course. My dad was holding one up near the finish and we could see it a good quarter mile away. It gives you a little boost of energy and keeps you going, although, my husband did complain that it seamed like it was never getting any closer.

Jon and I did have a pink sign, but it was with one of our cheerleaders at the time of the photo. Jeremy registered to run at the last minute, so we had to make an impromptu sign.

Now that I have my head back on straight, I'm ready to share some photos. The last two weeks have been crazy and have included running a marathon (more on that later), celebrating my daughter's First Communion, and preparing my house for a 60 person party. So, now I'm just a few sessions behind on proofing and lots behind on blogging. Here are some photos of another First Communicant and her little brother. No, these are not my kids, but they are great clients. I had so much fun running all over the park with them. It was a perfect evening for a photo session. I love it when little girls get to feel like a princess and little boys get to run. Enjoy! Stay tuned...I'll try to keep up with blogging. (Now that I made that public, I have to do it).

I had a fabulous time photographing this wedding last Friday. The weather was crazy, with a complete downpour one minute and then blue skies the next. Even in the rain, the Cincinnati Nature Center looked beautiful. It was such a great setting for a wedding. I just love my job :). Neysa is so much fun to work with, and Heather and Lon were so welcoming. Here are a few of my favorite images...although I had such a hard time choosing only a few!

When it comes to photography equipment, I'm like a kid in a candy store (or toy store). I save and count my pennies, waiting for the day I have saved enough for that extra special toy I had my heart set on. It is even better when the toy turns out to be better than expected. My new toy is a new Nikon D3 camera. Check this out...this was shot at 2000 ISO. While that may not mean much to the typical Joe on the street, it is amazing to the photophiles. I am giddy with excitement over this thing. My husband ans kids are getting a bit annoyed with the number of photos I have taken of them already. Anyone out there wanna model for me??

Sneak Peek

Running has been consuming my time, so the blog has been on the back burner. In addition to running, the winter is the slow photo season. (OK, so, really, I don't run everyday, I just think about it everyday...and plan for it...and eat for it...and map out routes for it...)

I did have the pleasure of photographing this little cutie today. It was nice to get back into the photography swing of things. Her adorable smile just made me melt. Here is a peek...check back for more.

Marathons and Motherhood

As I have mentioned before, it is marathon training season. That's my excuse for being absent from the blog. (That and the bronchitis/flu/plague that I had last week.) Anyway, I have frequently associated marathon training to being pregnant and running a marathon to giving birth. I wanted to share my thoughts here because it is taking up so much of my time.

Both marathon running and becoming a mom start in similar ways..a drunken night of indiscretion... no, really. For some it is something that they always wanted to do and finally get up enough nerve, for some it is the support and coaxing of a spouse. Whatever the case, as soon as you agree to it, you start to think, "uh oh, what have I done?" You spend the next months going from super excited to seriously questioning your sanity. You start to see what your body is capable of and you insist on odd food. Some days are good days, and you feel great. Other days are just plain bad. By the end, you just want it to be over. You have had it, and "the big day" - circled in red on your calendar- can't get here soon enough.

After waiting what seems like forever, the big day arrives. You are filled with excitement and a bit of nerves. If it's your first, you are worried about what to expect even though you have read everything you can get your hands on. If it's your second, you know that each can be different and you wonder if you will experience the same things you did the first time. In the beginning, things are quite good. You think to yourself "this is not so bad, I can do this". By the end, you are cursing your spouse and telling anyone who will listen that you are NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!! Then...you reach the end...and you have a smile on your face...and you have such a sense of accomplishment even though EVERYTHING hurts. For some people, the whole ordeal is over in a matter of a few hours and they look no different than when they started. For others, it takes what feels like forever and they look like they have been tortured. Some can't make it on their own and need medical assistance. Whatever the case, each comes with its own war story that you will share for the rest of your life.

When the pain has subsided and things start to return to normal, you start to remember only the good parts. The amnesia kicks in and you start to think that maybe you can do this again. Then, the whole process starts again. At the end of the marathon you receive a medal that you can show off proudly to all of your friends. At the end of childbirth, you have a beautiful baby who you can show off to all your friends. The difference is, that with children, you also get to forever cherish moments like these...

I'm Still Here!

Yes, yes, yes...I'm here. No, I did not fall off the face of the earth! I've been running. It is once again marathon training time and I've been eating, sleeping, and breathing running. More on that in another post. Let's get to some photos! Here are a few from a somewhat recent session. These two are regular clients and I always have a blast with them. Do I sound like a broken record? I love when clients can act like themselves and I can capture their moments. I also love working with natural light...so beautiful. Enjoy!

I photographed these four sibilings a few months back. It's about time I added them to the blog. They were a blast the entire session. I love getting to photograph kids in a setting where they are comfortable. What better place then their own home? They all had to show me all their favorite toys, favorite tricks, favorite books... They got to be themselves, goof off, and have some fun. I truely believe that's how every photo session should go. A super added bonus was the amazing natural light and great color of this room. Wedding

I had the pleasure of assisting Neysa in photographing this wedding reception. These two were married in early December in Gatlingurg and had their reception here later that month. We had so much fun taking photos all over the city. It was absolutely freezing out while we were doing this, but no one complained. This was a photographer's dream.

I had a great time with these two cuties. They were so fun, loved the camera, and didn't fight with each other (rare for siblings). I also loved that mom and grandma remained completely calm the entire time and were up for my ideas..."You want to hike to the creek for pictures...Sure, no problem, it sounds like fun!"

I'm not typically one to put kids into a specific pose. I much prefer they act like themselves. I think she is going to be a model, she sat down like this on her own.

Happy New Year everyone! Yes, my new year's resolution was to blog more ;) Um, right, it's what? January 4th? I'm way behind right now from the holidays, but I can see the end in sight. Here are a few images from a family session back in November. I meant to post this a long time ago, but didn't get to it.

I love getting to photograph outside whenever I can. So...I really appreciate it when families are willing to brave the cold to get some great shots. It amazes me how well the kids can do in this situation too.

Here are a few from a great family session. I got to photograph the littlest one when she was a newborn. It's hard to believe she is six months old now. These two adorable little girls are going to be breaking hearts when they get to be teens.

My grand plan for the next few days is to get caught up on my blogging. After looking through a gazillion images and choosing what I wanted for the new website, I didn't really feel like choosing more images for the blog. Now is my chance to get caught up...at least before I get behind again.

Yes, yes, I've been neglecting the blog. So sorry. I have been working on a new website. I'm a bit afraid to make that news public, because now you can all hound me about when the site will be ready (yikes!).

Here is a family session from a few weeks ago. I get to photograph this family every year and I always have a grand time. It has become almost a joke that every year when their session comes around, the weather turns bitter cold and we freeze through the whole thing. This year, 40 degrees outside was much better than the 25 we had one year. The kids were real troopers and politely put up with the cold and my craziness. I still can't believe how grow-up they are all getting.

Senior Session

I had a great time a few weeks ago with this senior session. I was told prior to the session that he only wanted a traditional head shot. I easily talked him into a few creative ideas though. I later discovered that he really just didn't want anything too cheesy. Love that. I'm all about not cheesy. While I may come up with what sounds like a crazy idea, it's only because I think it will create a stunning image. I hope my clients agree.

Yes, yes, I'm way behind on my blogging. Here is a session from the late summer, hot as can be heat, beautiful morning light, at a great park. I really did have a great time. I love it when the kids are happy and having fun and the parents just let the kids have the kind of fun they want to have. Some moms would have been upset if their child was only interested in the park toys and swings. Not here..."you want to swing? Sure, no problem, let's go swing." It made for some great photos.

I photographed this cutie a while back. (I'm just now getting to posting my kid sessions - in between all the weddings.) As usual, I had tons of fun with this little one. He really didn't want to give up his blankie or his thumb, but when he did...he had a great smile.

I just love it when I get to photograph a little one from the time they are newborns. I love getting to watch them grow up and forming a rapport with my clients. Photos are much better when the parents know my style and trust me, and the little ones are relaxed. Regardless of whether you are having your first or fiftieth session, I try to make the sessions fun and stress free. This one was no exception...so much fun!

Once again another fabulous wedding. I had such a wonderful time with these two, who are obviously head-over-heals for each other. It was a pleasure to be able to share in their day.

Loved the bride's shoes. They were my size and I was tempted to sneak them out of the house, but I didn't think I would get away with it. ;)

I once again had the privilege to assist Neysa with this wonderful wedding. The bride and groom were both stunning, and so much fun to photograph. The wedding ceremony and reception were outside with the high temperature reaching about 102 that day. We were prepared to be miserable, but, fortunately it was not too bad outside.

I've been photographing this cutie since she was one day old. I can't believe that was over a year ago. I love getting to see my clients grow up and document the process.

We had to take a break and head to a book store for about an hour to wait for the rain to stop. Cincinnati was in such need of rain, it was hard to wish it away. We ended up having a great session and even found some puddles to splash.

I had such a fun time with these two a few weeks ago. I was a bit worried when I pulled into the parking lot and saw dark clouds on one side of the sky and the thermometer reading 108. They were up for any of my suggestions, and, despite what they claim, they were naturals in front of the camera.

Now, this is true love. I think she jokingly suggested he carry her up the steps. So...he did...up ALL the steps...in 100 degree heat.

This was my last "just one more". A loud crack of thunder sent us running to the cars. We made it out before the downpour.

I photographed this amazing wedding a few weeks ago. The ceremony was held at The Garden of Hope in Covington. It has been there for decades and I never knew it existed. It is such a beautiful location and full of religious inspiration, including a replica of the tomb of Jesus. It is well worth the venture it takes to find this place.

The bride and groom, and their wedding party (all two of them) then headed out on a horse drawn carriage ride. Such a wonderful day... small, quiet, intimate ceremony, followed by a romantic carriage ride. All of this made for LOTS of favorite photos...

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to help Neysa photograph this incredible Macedonian wedding. When I photograph with Neysa, we have things down to an almost science. I photograph the guys getting ready, while she photographs the girls. Typically the guys are very calm and quiet, sitting around, and just relaxing. Not here. The "guys gathering spot" included a full party for all of the grooms relatives. It was like a reception before the reception and full of tradition.

I spent last week on vacation in Florida. It was so wonderful! We had 30 family members living in one house for the week. It was like a big party every night. People are amazed when I say that the vacation was relaxing...really! it was! I do hope this becomes an every other year tradition. I need to give a big shout out, "hello" to our beach neighbors. So, not only did all 30 of us in the house get along, we also got along great with our neighbors.

This week I'm spending catching up on photo work.

A sampling of my photos is now on display at Altiora Coffee in Taylor Mill. The coffeehouse is in the Remke shopping plaza on Taylor Mill and Old Taylor Mill Road. Stop in and see some of my work. The portraits are for display, the other prints are for sale. Be sure to tell Mayo (the owner, pictured below) that you came in just to see my work. It won't get you free coffee, but it might keep my photos on the wall a while longer. The photos may only be up for a month or two.

While you are there, enjoy one of their new salads and an iced coffee (it's the best I have ever had). The shop serves pastries and lunch in addition to some of the best coffee drinks. They are open Monday to Friday from 6am to 7pm, Saturday from 8am to 5pm, and Sunday from 8am to 1pm.

A few weeks ago I made plans with Neysa, for a Friday evening, to go over some photos (yes, we are photography nerds). She called me on Wednesday and said, "I just booked a wedding for Friday night." I said, "You mean in two days?...Can I come too?" So we headed to the courthouse where these two sisters each held their civil ceremonies. We then had some fun in the park across the street. What could be better?...two great couples, an intimate ceremony, and some photos in the park.

Marathon

Last weekend was marathon weekend! I am happy to report that my husband and I finished the marathon with a time of 4:39:36 (Congrats to Steve and Nick for finishing long before us). Jon and I crossed the finish line hand-in-hand with big smiles...well, I was smiling anyway. A big "thank you!" to all of our cheering supporters and all of my relatives who ran with us. This year, the marathon was a wonderful experience from the first day of training to crossing the finish line.

Dance Class

Twice a year, my daughter's dance class has "watch week". The parents get to stay for class and the kids get to show off what they are learning. The teachers like to ask all kinds of questions to demonstrate that the girls are learning something about dance. In true form, my daughter wanted to answer as many questions as she could.

Ack! When did it get to be March? What do you mean we're almost half-way through the month? And, who changed the time?

So, where have I been? Where else...running. Training for the marathon is going well so far. My feet are starting to look really ugly - I'll take that to mean I'm working hard. My legs seem to be holding up, and overall, training is still in the "fun" category. I'll let you know when that changes.

I've also been celebrating birthdays. Both of my children have birthdays in February and it seemed like the parties would never end. More on that later...

Now for the fun stuff - PICTURES! This cutie was at my studio last week and he was all smiles. How many times can I say, "I just love the baby sessions". Here are a few from the session. When Photoshop stops giving me trouble, I'll post the collage (again, "I just love those").

Ready for Spring

Here are a few photos of the trees in my front yard after last week's ice storm. The temperature finally made it past freezing today and things are starting to thaw. While I love the cold, I can do without the slush.

A note to all drivers out there...it is marathon training season and while we love to run on the sidewalk, the ice makes it impossible. Please be careful and share the road.

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! My hubby (the best) got me tickets to the Cincinnati Wine Festival! I can't wait. This is an annual convention in downtown Cincinnati where you get to sample over 100 wines and learn everything you ever wanted to know about the wineries.

My poor daughter was so bummed because she had to wait until the day after Valentine's to have her school party. I managed to survive 17 first-graders hyped up on sugar today.

Our crazy weather had schools closed one day last week. It didn't stop the birds though.

Then...this week, schools were closed for half the week from the ice storm.

Even though I love cold weather, I've had enough of running in the street because the sidewalks are ice/snow covered.

Okay, so it has been a while since I last blogged. I had an unspoken new year's resolution to post more to my blog so everyone could get to know me a little better. Well that last all of what? zero days? So, what have I been doing with my time? Some photography, but lots of running.

My husband has talked me into running the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon again this year. For those of you who don't know, I ran the marathon last year and swore I would never do it again (see May 2006 archives). When I ran last year, my husband decided he could not be outdone by me and vowed to run the marathon this spring. I told him that I would not recommend training alone and somehow that comment got me signed up to run again.

Pictured below are my trusted Pearl Izumi running shoes. A different pair got me through the marathon last year and I hope I only need to purchase one additional pair before this year's marathon.

I had a great photo session just before Christmas, and just now got a chance to post some shots. This little guy was so full of smiles through the entire session. I love working with three month old babies. They love to smile and they are too little to crawl away. It was pretty easy to capture some great images. Here are a few of my favorites.

These two girls were so much fun to photograph. I've never seen sisters so close in age who got along so well. They were much more interested in playing than getting their pictures taken. We did manage to get some nice shots though. Here are a few of my favorites.

Senior session

December is not typically the month for senior portraits, but this session turned out great. The late afternoon sun was perfect for some outdoor shots, and we didn't freeze too much. This gal was up for anything and didn't question me when I asked her to pose different ways - my favorite thing about working with seniors.

Family Photos

I always enjoy photographing this family. They are loads of fun and the kids get along great with my kids. The littlest one would have much rather played trains with my son, but we convinced him to join the family for a few shots. The daughter was up for anything. She always enjoys having her picture taken.

As the photographer in the family, I pretty much don't exist according to our photos. It is so nice to have another professional photographer take our family photos. This year, my good friend Neysa braved the cold and a wound up three-year-old to capture some amazing family photos for us. I should have had her consult Jim (photographer from past years, busy planning retirement) so she knew exactly what she was getting herself into. Thanks so much - it was a blast!

More Family

I had a great photo shoot a few weeks ago with this wonderful family. I really enjoy working with families and getting to know everyone's personality. I feel like I get a back stage pass into people's lives - a real privilege.

The two dogs in the photo had not met before that day. It made me more than just a little nervous, but I kept my cool and everything worked out just fine. It's so nice to have the ENTIRE family in a photo.

Thanksgiving

Yes, It has been "forever" since I updated my blog. So sorry. Below is a small look at what I've been doing for the past several days. Food, glorious food! I justified all this food by running the Thanksgiving Day 10K race here in Cincinnati. My husband will never live down the fact that I paced him through the entire race and then he sprinted the finish to beat me by 2 seconds! There was too much food in the kitchen so the turkey had to be carved in the laundry room.

Baby girl

As I have said before, I love newborn shoots. This was done a few weeks ago and was such fun. The light in her room was perfect for photos and natural light is so much nicer than a flash.

I knew the older brother and sister were going to love the new baby. This little one now has an abundance of "moms" to "help".

I just had to put together my favorite thing - a baby collage.

Three Months

Documenting your child's milestones is something that everyone can appreciate for years to come. It is amazing how quickly these little ones change! Having professional photographs created is a wonderful way to preserve time. I know infants are tons of work for their parents, but I try to make all of my sessions as stress free as possible, after all, I'm not a department store studio.

Below are some shots from from a recent three month old session. I love that her mom dressed her in blue - it can look so cute on a little girl and really brings out her blue eyes. This little one was pure joy. I had such fun photographing her.

Engagement

I had the opportunity to photograph an engagement session for this terrific couple. We had fun despite the freezing cold temperatures and blustering wind. They each have a wonderful smile and you get a true sense that they really care about each other. I can't wait to photograph the wedding next spring.

Kids

These three were a riot to photograph. They were much more interested in the ducks than anything else. The littlest had no interest in staying in one place, even with her dad's song and dance. Not to worry though, some of my favorite photographs are of kids just being themselves. I always have fun running around with the kids - they keep me laughing and make my job very enjoyable.
